Ancestral Softworks respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. This document, together with our Terms of Service, identifies what information and personal data we collect from you, and how we use that information.

Information We Collect From You

We collect only a bare minimum of information, as discussed below, and will not share it with any person or entity unless required to do so by law.

We collect and process the following information about you:

  • Information you provide to us when purchasing the software, including your name, email address, and postal address. Credit cards are processed by a third party (PayPal, Stripe) and are never ‘seen’ or retained by Ancestral Softworks. The information you provide during the purchase process is used to create a “registration code” which we send to you by email to unlock the software. Names and email addresses are retained in a database which we use to identify our customers. On rare occasions we will send email notices to customers regarding the availability of new features and new software. You can opt out of these emails by sending a request to support@ancestralauthor.com. Emails and customer names are never shared with third parties.
  • Information that you provide to us when resolving a customer support issue. This can include emails describing a customer problem, and occasionally (at the customer’s discretion) GENealogical Data COMmunication (GEDCOM) files which we will use to reproduce and fix the problem. Most of these GEDCOM files are deleted once the problem is fixed. Some are retained for testing purposes. These are stored in a secure area, and never shared with third parties. Customers may (again at their discretion) send sample output from Ancestral Softworks products that demonstrate problems or issues. These are used to help resolve the reported issue, are never shared with third parties, and are always deleted from Ancestral Softworks computers when the problem is resolved.
  • Information collected when you visit our website. This consists of internet protocol (IP) addresses used to connect your computer to the internet, browser type and version, operating system and platform. In addition, we aggregate information about number of visitors to www.AncestralSoftworks.com over time, and track which pages are viewed, and for how long. We do not use cookies. Finally, upon invocation, Ancestral Author products will contact the AncestralSoftworks.com website to determine if there is a software update available. This is used to automatically inform customers of the availability of new updates. No information other than the customer’s software version is sent to AncestralSoftworks.com, and nothing involving the transaction is retained in a database, or anywhere else.
